April: Month of the Military Child
Military kids are amazing examples of resilience, strength and adaptability all year long.
They pack up their books and clothes and say goodbye to friends every couple of years. They help manage the home front, taking on extra responsibilities while a parent is deployed. They do all of this and so much more for their families and their country.
Each April, the Department of Defense takes the time to focus on them and honor everything they do and sacrifice as they support their families and serve their communities. Join Military OneSource in this nationwide celebration during Month of the Military Child.
Throughout April, Military OneSource will be promoting free resources for military children and their parents.
Here are a few to get the celebration going:
Time for fun: camping experiences. Put camp time on a kid's calendar, and it might just make his or her year. Check out camps for kids of all ages around the country and year-round.
Time for support: networking and counseling. Help military children get the support they need in the face of frequent moves and other challenges. Point them to Military Kids Connect® for one way to build a network of friends they can take wherever they go. You can also connect your child with non-medical counseling support through a child and youth behavioral military and family life counselor.
Time for college: getting tuition assistance. Make a plan for paying for college. Getting your financial ducks in a row now can make the process less painful for your wallet later. Look into scholarships for military children specific to military branches, as well as general scholarships based on the student's attributes, the parent's military service or other qualifiers.
Help us celebrate your military kids, and take advantage of all of the resources out there for them and for you. And take some time to celebrate locally. Contact your installation to learn about special local events and volunteer opportunities during Month of the Military Child.
