The
need for Warrior Wives was realized after our country began the War on Terror. Until that time, a National
Guardsman or Reservist could serve his time doing one weekend a month and two weeks a year, without his wife knowing his job
title or rank. Although there was an occasional school to attend, there was hardly a need for wives to
make a trip to the “unit”, unless there was a Family Day. After 9/11/2001 that all changed. Very quickly, the role of a National
Guardsman and Reservist began to look more like that of the active duty military. What also happened during
that time, was a great change in the family life of the “Weekend Warrior.” Military wives began
to realize the need to get connected to the military community, because like it or not, this was no longer a weekend duty.
During
this process wives began to learn what a great asset it is to meet with other military wives and do more than just plan family
days. This opportunity to work together for a common purpose and help each other through the hard times,
gave National Guard and Reserve wives a new perspective; one most active duty wives are already privy to. There
is an unspoken bond between military friends.
We are now years into this War on Terror.
While our military has done exceptional training on the recruits, one area is still lacking; not with our military,
it’s with the military wives. Training is not only necessary, it is vital to our survival.
We must be prepared to fight the everyday battles that are sure to begin the minute our husbands walk out the door
on assignment.
It is with this belief that a group of military wives joined
in 2008 to create Warrior Wives. These ladies come from different backgrounds, ranks and branches, but
their mission is the same. They realize the hardships and benefits of living a military life outside of a military community.
Their goal is to bridge the geographical gap for military wives that live in the same communities and to promote one
another through each stage of military life. Often these wives have no connection to one another, because
their husbands serve in different branches or OPSEC rules limit the very people it protects. With these
goals in mind, we bring you Warrior Wives. We are an all-volunteer organization, funded solely by donations.
